Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a complex condition that can manifest in various ways, significantly impacting an individual’s daily life. Understanding the typical symptoms associated with scoliosis is essential for effective management.

The causes of scoliosis:

We divide scoliosis into two primary categories:

  1. Structural scoliosis: In this type of scoliosis, the spine‘s structure deforms because of spinal rotation or curves.
  2. Non-structural scoliosis: In this type, the spine‘s structure remains intact; however, it comprises temporary curves that are fixable. It occurs mostly due to muscle spasms, unequal leg length, or inflammation.

Structural scoliosis is further subdivided into:

  • Idiopathic scoliosis: Mostly, scoliosis is idiopathic (Without known cause), and it can get worse with age. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is among the most common type of scoliosis.
  • Degenerative or adult scoliosis: Osteoporosis, traumatic accidents that cause bone injury, bone deformation, and spinal surgery can cause secondary scoliosis.
  • Neuromuscular or myopathic scoliosis: The abnormal muscle or nerve formation due to muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and other neuromuscular conditions cause this type of scoliosis.
  • Congenital scoliosis: Congenital scoliosis (present at birth) is rare but occurs when spine development is abnormal during fetus growth.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Children with Scoliosis

If your child is diagnosed with scoliosis, many treatment options are available depending on the severity of their condition. However, chiropractic care is one of the most effective and proven methods for managing scoliosis. Here are just a few of the many benefits that chiropractic care can offer for children with scoliosis:

  • Improved range of motion and flexibility: Chiropractic care can help to improve the mobility and flexibility of your child’s spine, which will help prevent any further curvature from occurring.
  • Less pain: Regular chiropractic sessions can help reduce or eliminate the pain associated with scoliosis, allowing your child to go about their daily activities with fewer disruptions.
  • Better posture: If your child has severe scoliosis, they may be at an increased risk of developing other health problems, such as back pain or organ dysfunction. Regular chiropractic care can help stabilize and strengthen the spine, helping to keep it in a more natural position and improve overall posture.

Signs and Symptoms

The symptoms of scoliosis may differ depending on the age group and severity. Following are some of the common symptoms associated with scoliosis:

  • Uneven shoulders, waist, or buttocks
  • Leg pain and difference in leg length
  • Back, joint, or shoulder pain
  • Head appears slightly off-center
  • Weakness in the spine
  • Muscle spasms
  • Difficulty breathing
  • In severe cases of scoliosis in infants, the risk of heart and lung impairment significantly increases.

Our Philosophy and Approach

According to American Chiropractic Research, forms of scoliosis affect 7 to 8 million of the USA population. If you have scoliosis or know someone suffering from it, you can understand how hard life can become.

Most individuals have less than 20 degrees of spine curvature, which we can easily treat with careful chiropractic care. Don’t know if you can trust a chiropractor to fix your scoliosis? We get that, but keep reading and we would love to offer you a consultation done at our expense to see if your office is a great fit for you and your family.

  • Chiropractic and Scoliosis

Research supports the positive effects of chiropractic treatment on scoliosis. A study published in the Open Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation highlighted the case series of a mother and her two teenage daughters who underwent nine years of chiropractic care for scoliosis. The results showed reduced Cobb angles and improved quality of life, providing substantial evidence of the benefits of chiropractic care for managing scoliosis.

It’s important to note that while chiropractic care may not be a cure for severe scoliosis, it can offer significant relief and improved well-being for individuals with mild to moderate cases.

  • Why Chiropractic
